Friday 29th September:
Today I am working on product design in this i have to analyse 2 front covers 2 contents pages and 2 double page spreads of different music magazines. I will talk about why colorus are used how people are posotioned in the photos what headlines have been used and how they affect the reader. I found this easy to do as i have already dont this sort of thing in gcse so i know all the language that is aprpriate to use when talking about magazines. if i could do this again i would not change anything as i feel that i have done it to my best ability.
Monday 3rd October
Today i have started a prezi presentation on key concepts report on NME. In this presentation i have spoken about the key concepts, institution,conventions, representation and concepts. I have written a detailed paragraph for each of the sub titles talking about how NME do this and giving examples of how they have done it. I found this fine to do but it was hard to find information about how NME did things and why they did what they did.
Monday 10th October
Today i have made a poll on blogger, asking questions about magazines what people like in them and do they buy magazines. These questions are for all my followers to answer so i can get an idea of what i can put in my magazine and what not to put in my magazine. Also i have voted on other people blogs helping them get an idea of what to do also. This task was simple and i did it in a mater of minutes. After that i imported my prezi key concepts report that i made last week into my blog so Mr Fisher could view it.
Monday 17th October
Today I have used a programme called camstudio, this allows me to record what i am doing on my screen. I used this programme to show you how i have made my front cover peliminary task. This programme is easy to use and i would use it again for a diary entry or another task like this. I have also updated my blog making sure all of the tasks are up there and in an organised fashion.
Friday 21st October
Today i have started and finished my mood board, in my mood board i have said what colours are going to be in my magazine and what type of people are going to read my magazine, the types of clothes that they would wear. Also the types of bands that they would listen to, the festivals that they would go to. Finally in my mood board i have included my inspiration, this includes photographs that i like that have been in music magazines recently and in the past. This was an enjoyable task to do and if i did it again i don't think that i would change anything.
Monday 24th October
Today i researched different music magazine names that already exist, i did this so i could get some ideas for my music magazine that i am going to make. After that i started thinking about what i was going to call mine, i did this my looking at existing names and trying to make mine quite similar to them, something that is catchy and people will remember. I have come up with some ideas and they have been posted on my blog i have given reasons why i have chosen them.
Friday 28th October
Today i have started to work on my target audience doing a powerpoint presentation on it. Describing exactly what i want my taget audience to be and look like, what they will dress like what they would do in their spare time. I have not yet finished this but i will in the next lesson i have. Also today i have added draft designs for my mast head. I have chosen different colours and fonts for this so i can get a variety to chose from. Lastly today i have updated my blog making sure all the work thati need to do has been done.
Monday 31st October
Today i have started and completed my colour connotations and uploaded it to my blog. I have done this by doing a presentation on powerpoint saying what colours i will use in my magazine and what connotations they have. Also i have carried on with my target audience profile adding realy detail to it so that i know what exactly the type of person that i am aiming my magazine to. i have finished this and added it to my blog.
Wednesday 2nd November
Today i have started thinking up my sell lines, i have seen what other magazines have used and what type of words they use and what is appropriate for a sell line. Also to see what draws in the readers attention on other magazines and i have applied this in my sell lines that i have come up with. I am yet to upload these to my blog as i think that i could think of some more and make improvements on them. They will be uploaded in my next lesson as i will then have time to finish them and edit them.
Thursday 3rd November
Today after school i did a photoshoot with my model George Allard. I made him do a lot of different poses and jump around the set so i could get unique and interesting photos. He was very good as he took direction amazingly. i got some good photos and now i have to make a contact sheet showing all of the photos that i have taken. After that i will use them for my magazine. George was wearing the clothes that i had wanted my target audience to wear, this may make them want to buy the magazine because they can relate to the artist on the front cover.
20th November
Today i have started drawring up my front cover draft i have included the type of photo i am going to use, where the text will be and the general layout i want for my front cover. When i have finished all three front cover, double page spread and contents page i will scan them in and have them displayed on my blog. I have also done another photoshoot adding to the photos that i have already taken with the same model just a few more poses and outfit changes so i can get a variety in my photos.
Monday 28th November
Today i have sorted through my photoshoot and picked out what photos i wanted to use. There were a few that i couldnt use as the lighting wasnt correct or they were just not what i wanted. I have chosen some for my contents page and double page spread for extra photos at the side of the pages. I have made sure that i have the correct things on my blog and made sure i am up to date with the tasks that have meant to be completed.
Tuesday 29th November
Today i have done another photoshoot taking some outside of the classroom with natural backgrounds up against brick walls and in bushes. i like these photos because they do not require cutting out and look more professional. Secondly I have completed my article draft and uploaded it to my blog. This includes questions that I feel are appropriate for a music magazine, i know this because i have analysed other magazines and the questions i have used go along the same lines.
1st December
Today i have started looking through and choosing what photos i am going to use for my front cover. I have found one that i feel suits my magazine style. I have now started putting my ideas into action i have started making my front cover, i feel that the front cover is always the hardest to make because you want it to look like other magazines out there but not the same as them. I have stuck to using just 3 colours as i dont want to over crowd my front cover and make it look messy and un professional.
3rd December
Today i have started adding sell lines to my front cover and filling in the missing spaces. Not making it too messy but making sure that there is enough information on there so it looks like a magazine on the shelves. i have chosen one bold colour on my magazine front cover and the rest are plain and not very eye catching. I will start on my double page spread next as i an going to leave my contents page to the end.
6th December
today i have started on my double page spread, i have chosen a photo of boys on Brighton beach i have taken this photo when going down and visiting Brighton, i think that it looks like a professional shot and works with the magazine layout nicely. I have chosen to put a band in there so in my article i am only interviewing one of the members. I have carried over my colour scheme into my double page spread.
7th December
Today i have played around with the levels of some of my photos to change the lighting of them as i didn't feel that my front cover image was clear enough and didn't stand out enough against the white background. I also started on my second double page spread. I have used different fonts in this and cut out an image that i feel goes extremely well as a double page spread image. I have stuck to the colour scheme also making it fluent throughout the magazine.
9th December
I have started touching up things i didn't like on my front cover today and moving things around as i didn't feel that they were in the right places. For my first double page spread i have changed the lighting and levels on the picture as i thought it was too dark and needed lightening up some more. I will start on my contents page next trying my hardest to make it look like a professional one.
11th December
Today i have started making my contents page, i always find that i have trouble making contents pages as there is a lot of different text and different images that need to be spaced in a specific place to make it look organised. I have kept to the same colour scheme in the contents as well but i might change it as i think that the green colour i have chosen has been used a bit too much.
13th December
Today i have carried on editing my magazine making sure the photos are cut out proparly and smooth edges. The contents has been changed around soi the text is on both sidews of the page instead of just one. The images have been made smaller so there is more room for text and information. I have made sure that the colour is different shades instead of it being one blocked colour.
15th December
Today i have changed the text on my first double page spread, it didnt fit in well with the other double page spread so i had to change it to the font the same as my mast head on my front cover. This fits in better to the double page spread and stands out against the black and white photo. The photo that i have chosen is one that you would usually find because it is at the beach and has a lot of things going on and so do pictures in 'indie' magazines like NME.
17th December
Today i have started to add a fact file on my second double page spread i felt that there wasnt enough text on the page and just all picture. I placed the fact file in the bottom right hand corner and then decided that i didnt like it on there as it didnt go well with the black and white photo and that was the main thing you were drawn to when i wanted my audience to focus on my photograph of the band.
20th December
The text that i have chosen to write my title for my first double page spread still wasnt looking right so i changed it again to a text that i feel fits in better with the whole magazine, its a text that i have used in the magazine for the masthead and in the contents page by doing this it adds flow to my magazine and matches in well with my other pages. I also started looking at my contents page and what i could do to make it better.
23rd December
Today i have mainly concentrated on my contents page as i havent really done much to it and only have the basic layout that i want to use. I have chosen the pictures that i have taken to put on the contents and the colour scheme is still the same on this page also. I have placed my text where i want it to be and the text that i wanted to use with page numbers and what is on that page down the left hand side of the page.
28th December
Today i have changed and added things to my front cover, changing the photo that i chose to begin with. I cut out a new image and placed it on the front cover, i think i like this one better but it still doesnt look right i will change and play with the front cover next lesson. I moved onto the colour connotations of my magazine, a power point about what colours i am gonig to chose and why i am going to have them in my magazine.
1st January
During the christmas break i have changed a few things i have made a new front cover using the image i cut out before the christmas holidays. The masthead i have chenged the font so it is the same as my contents and second double page spread. I decided not to have my masthead the same colour as my colour scheme because i did not want to have a green magazine. I chose a nice and simple colour black, it stands out because of the font i have used to type it in so it doesnt need a bright colour to make it more eye catching and in your face.
4th January
Today i have moved my images arond on my contents page and made them smaller so there is more room for the text that i am yet to put on there.
I have carried on with the colour connotations adding a page on the powerpoint about where i got my inspiration from and what colours they use and how i think that, that makes their magazine look good. I have finished this and posted it on my blog under planning.
7th January
I have started a powerpoint on Mise-en-scene of my magazine i have talked aboput what colthes i got my model to wear and why i chose him to wear that. I also spoke about what poses my model did and where i got the ideas from to do that from magazines like NME or album covers. The facial expressions that i have made my model make is also something that i have put into my powerpoint on Mise-en-scene to show where i got my ideas from and what i am trying to make my magazine look like.
11th January
I have now got my models to sign model releases this allows me to use any photo that i have taken of them in my magazine with their permission. These have been scanned into my computer and put onto my blog to show that i have got persmission from my model and are not just using them.
15th January
Magazine name ideas i have done before i even started making my magazine but i have finally put them up onto my blog to show that i have had done it and had other ideas than my one that i have chosen on my final piece.
17th January
After posting my final drafts on blogger i realised that they didnt look like what i wanted them to. I went back on photoshop and changed them around adding text and more images so it looked like the magazine i wanted. I added an image on my double page spread changing the opacity of it so it will go behind the text and then on my first double page spread adding text to make it clear to the reader who i am interviewing on the next double page spread.
25nd January
i have started to organise my blog making sure that i have everything that i need on it and making sure that i havent missed anything out, i make labels so it was easier to get around on my blog without having to search for my work. I then started my last past of my evaluation making videos prezis and powerpoints to add variety to my work.
March 6th
I have made 2 prezis today on the evalutation questions making them interesting to the reader instead of just a bit of text on a page. I have added youtube videos to them and a lot of images to show my points. This took a long time as i wanted to get it right and have visually pleasing work.
10th March
Today i did a powerpoint on one of those evaluation questions adding images and making the text into bulletpoints therefore making it easier to read and better than just a block of writing on a page. I used images and text backing up my points with the images that i have chosen.
18th March
Today i have made 1 video of myself reading out one of the essays that i have written for my evaluation after recording it i had to edit it in adobe premiere because i had made a few mistakes and had to correct and edit them out.
